Asuka Julia Riedl, born in Hamburg in 1988, is a dancer, choreographer and actress with German-Japanese roots. Since 2011, she has been working in Berlin mainly as a freelance dancer and has collaborated with renowned choreographers such as Constanza Macras, Felix Ruckert, Mirjam Gurtner and Yoriko Maeno.

She also works across disciplines with music producer Søren Siebel (aka Bas Grossfeldt), the contemporary circus company Cirq La Putyka and artist Alexandra Pirici. Asuka is very interested in intercultural exchange through movement and art. She has been part of projects in Morocco, Uganda, Japan and Zimbabwe, collaborating with local artists and creating performances.

In 2021, Asuka immersed herself in the world of choreography. Her many years of practice in Muay Thai, the Thai martial art, led to a collaboration with choreographer Yotam Peled. As co-choreographer, she created Get A Grip, a performance with four professional martial artists. Last year, she developed her first solo production entitled KARADA – a dance performance that depicts and questions past war experiences and current ways of dealing with global conflicts.

As an actress, Asuka appeared at the Thalia Theatre Hamburg in Brüste und Eier (2022-2024) by Christopher Rüping. She has also appeared in several short films and played the role of the Operator in the Hollywood production John Wick Chapter 4 (2023).
